Week 2 of the season is always interesting. Most top players don’t like to play tournaments the week before the Australian Open. However, if they had a bad Week 1, they try and get some more matches to get conditioned for the next 2 weeks.
Adelaide is like the rest of the history of Week 2 tournaments. Let’s break down the Top 8 seeds.
1-Tommy Paul. 1st match of the year
2-Nicolas Jarry. 0-2 in the United Cup
3-Sebastian Korda. 0-1 losing to #51 Yannick Hanfmann in Brisbane.
4-Lorenzo Musetti. 1-1 beating #253 Wong and losing to #67 Pavel Kotov in Hong Kong
5-Sebastian Baez. 0-1 losing to #170 Lukas Kelin in Brisbane.
6-Tomas Martin Etcheverry. 0-1 losing to #78 Tomas Machac in Brisbane.
7-Jiri Lehecka. 0-2 in the United Cup.
8-Alexandre Bublik. 1st match of the year.
So, all of them here are looking to gain some momentum for the Australian Open.
Tommy Paul is getting a fantastic draw to win this tournament. Bye, Qualifier/Lucky Loser/Special Exempt in Round 2. Quarterfinals McDonald, Kecmanovic or Baez. The major question will be how hard he wants to play come late in the tournament with the next 2 weeks coming.
Some interesting first round matchups with McDonald/Kecmanovic, Hijikata/Evans, Hanfmann/Sonego, Lehecka/Popyrin.
All in all, this tournament is WIDE OPEN. Going to play 3 future bets here:
Tommy Paul +500. Love his draw and really shouldn’t be challenged until the Semi Finals against possibly Alexandre Bublik. And if you follow tennis, you know Bublik could lose in the 1st round or win the tournament any given tournament.
Alexander Shevchenko +2800. He is really starting to come into his own. Had a very hard fought 3 set loss against Holger Rune in Round 2 of Brisbane after beating Luca van Assche 6-3 6-2 in the first round.
Alexei Popyrin +2800. His game really started to come together in 2023 winning his maiden ATP title. Losing last week in a 3rd set tiebreaker to eventual Semi Finalist Roman Safiullin.

Wow! What an absolute field for a wend week tournament. This will be an absolutely AMAZING tournament and very interesting to watch this play out. As stated earlier, with Week 2, you just never know what might happen.
I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this breakdown so lets just go down the draw.
Ben Shelton is the 1 seed after a very disappointing loss in the 1st Round to Roman Safiullin. This draw gets absolutely no easier with a bye following up against Fabian Marozsan or Gael Monfils. Disclaimer, I am a fan of Marozsan. Betting Challengers for 3 years, I have a small place in my heart for guys I find that are good in Challengers and make their break through and that is Fabian Marozsan. I fell in love with Marozsan clay game when he won the Banja Luka Challenger in August 2022. Watching him pull off maybe the biggest upset of 2023 over Carlos Alcaraz in Rome made me smile for days.
Denis Shapovalov gets back in action against Sebastian Ofner. Another disclaimer, as a Canadian, I love my Canadian players and I also hate them at the same time. What a disappoint 2023 for him and this will be his first match since Wimbledon. Ofner coming off a very strong Week 1 in Hong Kong losing in the semi finals to Ruusuvuori. Will there be some jet lag here for Ofner? Interesting to watch out for.
Francisco Cerundolo being the 3 seed. But also getting a very favorable draw into the semi finals.
The same thing I talked about Shapovalov, it can be copied right here for the #4 seed in Felix Auger-Aliassime. he gets a favorable draw playing Daniel Altmaier or Marcos Giron. The other part of that quarterfinals with a great first match with the new vs. old in French Tennis, Arthur Fils and Richard Gasquet.
Cameron Norrie beat Alex De Minaur in the United Cup but lost to Taylor Fritz. I want to see how he looks this week. Eubanks and Van De Zandschulp will be a fantastic first round match as well.
3 Future Bets:
Francisco Cerundolo +1400 – Big fan of Cerundolo. I really like his draw to the Semi Finals. The top Quarter is wide open so maybe we get someone sneaking through.
Felix Auger-Aliassime +550 – Curious to see what FAA shows up this year. Another draw that I like here.
Cameron Norrie +650 – Only person to beat De Minaur. I liked how he looked at the United Cup.
